Our
Mission
MAGIC is a
neighborhood-based process for mobilizing community leaders, social service
providers, church communities, schools, juvenile justice agencies and families
in Bayview Hunters Point. Our goal is to coordinate and improve youth services,
and provide early intervention that reduces juvenile crime, strengthens families
and keeps children in school. MAGIC's objectives are:
·
To collect
current, meaningful data on the Bayview Hunters Point community, through
original surveys, meetings and interviews as well as existing sources, to
identify priority risk factors for neighborhood youth and gaps in services.
·
To present the
community with an accurate, validated Comprehensive Action Plan assessing
specific youth needs in the context of related factors like violent crime, gang
activity, drugs, domestic violence and guns.
·
To research,
evaluate and present information on existing services and nationwide best
practices that are responsive to community needs identified in
the Plan.
·
To improve
planning and program coordination among all stakeholders, toward developing a
full continuum of services available to at-risk youth and their families in
areas such as parenting skills; truancy, violence and gang prevention/intervention;
substance abuse; conflict resolution; youth employment initiatives; mentoring
and peer monitoring; and restorative justice and diversion programs.
·
To develop
performance measures that will enable the community to evaluate how effectively
youth services and juvenile justice agencies meet identified needs.
·
To produce a
multi-year Strategic Plan, endorsed by local officials, which will guide
development of new and existing programs, and future investment of resources.
MAGIC will also reach out
and involve other communities, neighborhoods and individuals to share the
organization's experiences and to seek outside assistance, support and
resources.
